Due to incredible demand, the drawings of Batman just keep on coming.. I did this one about 3am in my studio last night as the hooligans were yahooing through the mall and all i had was heaps of coffee. Ps- I finally bought the first season of Batman:The Animated Series on DVD and it's so super awesome, pretty much the best cartoon ever. Dear Warner Brothers please release the rest of the series in Australia, i'm going to run out of episodes pretty soon.

Spider-Man and some of his enemies

Here is a drawing I just finished, it's Spider-Man, Mysterio, Venom, The Green Goblin, The Kingpin, Doctor Octopus, and Kraven The Hunter. I probably would have kept drawing Spider-Man villains to infinity but I ran out of paper. Really should give the superheroes a rest though, drawing myself into a creative blackhole.

The Canvas.. - Newcastle Post 16/06/2010

Here's an awkward Q&A/Meet The Artist I sort of half-reluctantly participated in for this weeks issue of the Newcastle Post newspaper. Maybe I should hire a PR person to keep me from saying stupid dickheady things that will end up in print forever and ever. Anyway, here it is! If you can't read too good you can click HERE to have the article read to you by a robot, it's heaps creepy.
The Canvas.. - Grant Hunter (Wednesday, June 16 2010)

When did your artistic passion begin?

It started as a young lad with pockets full of Textas drawing various characters from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Masters of the Universe to prove myself to my hard-working family. I’ve been seriously doing this full-time for about five years or something, mainly because I don’t have a real job.

Describe your work.
Some would describe my work as mixed media with a focus on the discussion of the cerebral possibility of death and the eternal flux of life. However, I would say mostly gross but loveable monster babes with big teeth and breasts, but sometimes other things, too, like squirrelly psychedelic lines and heaps of circles and lots of colourful nightmare landscapes and superheroes and native marsupials. Also it’s not really work because it’s super fun.

What inspires you?
Drawing upon all facets of life, sucking up the ebb and flow of daily chaos – namely Portuguese chicken burgers, dental hygienists, Batman (the greatest detective in the world) and the cackling laughter of children in the afternoon sunlight.

What has been your greatest achievement?
The establishment and operation of the ARThive gallery through the Renew Newcastle initiative. Newcastle’s creative community is incredibly fortunate to have this all happening here. Support it now or complain about it later.

What would be your advice for budding artists?
Stay true to yourselves, have ideas, put your head down and express what is uniquely you. Don’t be pressured into fitting into establishing moulds by old institutional dinosaurs. Fine art is pretty much a joke. Marry into money.

Grant Hunter’s work will be featured as part of the We’re Turning One exhibition which is on display at ARThive Gallery until Saturday, July 3. Works are also available from granthunter.blogspot.com
